For The Love of Jazz - A Family Affair

To make a short story longer, let's begin by telling you that everyone at BTM is related to each other (it sounds incestuous, more about this later).

When we were kids we always had lots of music in our homes and at parties. It was ingrained in us. I guess we’re all just a bunch of frustrated musicians (who isn’t).

We all love jazz, but it was Brazilian Jazz / Bossa Nova that became the match that lit the fire. It’s almost as if you’re whole life moves to its rhythm, you can’t escape it, and as far as we are concerned, the early days of Bossa Nova is when BTM really started -although we didn’t know it at the time.

So for all the many years we’ve been searching for jazz, glorious jazz, Brazilian, American, Latin, Pop, World jazz; talking, listening, and swapping jazz, it was all right there in front of our collective faces, at the clubs where we met and continue to meet and listen to some of the most talented jazz musicians in the world.

Many of these Artists have migrated to New York City seeking fame and fortune or as in most cases just a place to play where audiences could appreciate them and their music. Blend this with a wealth of local native talent… add our love for American, Brazilian and World jazz, plus an overwhelming desire to let the rest of the world hear what we’ve been listening to in New York for the last ten years…and this is the unique sound that is
Blue Toucan Music.

Which leads us to the question: Who created the Blue Toucan Music logo? Funny you should ask. Actually, we designed it ourselves. The concept grew out of our love for Brazilian jazz and our reverence for the two greatest jazz landmarks in New York, “Blue Note” and “Birdland,” plus we like the color blue. In this case, “The Bird” (not Charlie Parker) is represented by a Toucan, a bird native to Brazil. The keyboard on the beak is the focal point of the classic American jazz trio, the piano. The Toucan is perched on a guitar which is synonymous with Brazilian jazz.

It has taken us 2 ½ years to get the bird to fly and it has been a collective effort by the BTM staff, who have a hand in just about everything from A&R, production, recording, graphic design, Ad creation, advertising, publicity, promotion, licensing, publishing etc., etc., so “titles need not apply”.

We are also a publishing company registered with ASCAP as Blue Toucan Productions Inc., and a member of NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers), and the Recording Academy.

Last but not least our genealogy:

Bob Raulli, Carol Jannotte, Jeanine Salierno, Louis Jannotte, Danny Salierno, Kristen Salierno, Danny Salierno Jr., Al Jannotte

We are cousins, siblings, in-laws, husbands & wives, uncles, nieces & nephews, parents and children. But even if this weren’t true, somehow, in some club somewhere, we would have all been brought together by the love of jazz.

Enough already! How about we listen to the music? We hope you love it as much as we do.
